How to Reduce Cholesterol

How to reduce cholesterol, or rather how to balance cholesterol, is not that difficult. The problem is that as we age, our liver function changes a lot. This affects the body in many different ways, and for instance, our cholesterol level will become unbalanced. That means that you may end up with too much LDL cholesterol when it should be in better balance with HDL cholesterol.

Your liver is one of the body’s busiest organs and it has a lot of functions to fulfill. By the time you hot 50, it might be a bit tired and will need some tender loving care. We don’t need to take statins to give it some tender loving care. All we need to do is to eat right and take a look at some supplements that might help us.

Diet really matters

To boost liver function you want to introduce more anti-oxidants and other micro nutrients into your life. You can do that by focusing on your diet, and this is when we find out that breakfast really matters. If, you like to eat cereals, you may want to think twice before doing so. Oats are okay as they are slow release energy, but some cereals are not good for us at all.

Try to focus on putting together your own fruit platter in the morning. Forget about acidic fruits such as oranges, clementines and grapefruit. This is the time of life when you want to start focusing on spending a bit more money on your breakfast. Add blueberries, strawberries and prunes to you diet in the morning and you will be on your way to rebalancing your cholesterol levels.

Don’t have a tea or coffee with your breakfast, but it is fine to have a yogurt. You need to make sure that all of those nutrients are digested “undisturbed” and metabolized by your friend the liver. You will soon notice you have more energy, and your cholesterol balance will be better. If, you fancy a coffee, wait for an hour or so, and sit down to ENJOY your coffee.

Supplement matters

Our food is often lacking in vital nutrients. It may have traveled along way to reach us, and after that, it has sat on supermarket shelves for a few days. Make sure that your food is as fresh as possible, but at the same time, add some clever supplements which are in general going to benefit you.

The liver loves vitamin B1, B3, B6 and B12 and work with them to turn the food you eat into energy. B vitamins work together, so it is a good idea to take a good quality vitamin B complex. These busy vitamins do not only help you to balance your cholesterol, they also support your nervous system, your oxygen uptake, your heart… every cell in your body needs vitamin B. Our bodies cannot manufacture it, so it is a good idea to take a supplement.

Omega 3 is also appreciated by the liver. It uses it during the digestion process, and you should take about 1000 mg per day to notice the benefit. Of course, this is another supplement which is appreciated by the rest of the body. Your joints, heart and brain will love you for taking Omega 3, so this is another supplement to add.

How to reduce cholesterol, or how to balance cholesterol, is not that hard. It is just a matter of being a bit savvy when it comes to your overall health.
